Seniors in Belgium: valuing experience and strengthening intergenerational links
Ahead of the International Day of Older Persons on 1 October, a survey conducted for DUO for a JOB highlights perceptions of the professional experience of older people in Belgium.
According to the survey, 45% of people over 55 feel that their professional experience is viewed negatively on the labour market. The findings also point to persistent age-related stereotypes and the importance of better recognising the skills and experience of older workers.
The article highlights the intergenerational mentoring approach developed by DUO for a JOB, which connects young people from migrant backgrounds seeking employment with volunteer mentors aged over 50. This approach supports the exchange of knowledge and experience while creating connections between generations.
